Barniz de Pasto

The immature leaf of the Mopa Mopa tree is pliable, however when it it grows to full leaf can not be used for the art craft of Barniz.......made only in Pasto!

The mature leaf on top
The immature leaf under mature one

Once many immature leaves are gathered they are softened in a pot of hot water and then a mallet is used to clean any impurities

Then by using there hands and lips they stretch the material to thin as paper workable "ink"...they can add color or leave natural

as you can see it becomes transparent....

Then the end result is used on crafts...which mimics paint...absolutely amazing......and time consuming.
